Verona is a very walkable city, but driving into the historic centre needs a little preparation. The centre has a camera-controlled ZTL, and parking availability, tariffs and access procedures can change. The safe plan is to park first, then explore on foot.
Do not rely on old ZTL hours
An earlier version of this guide listed fixed daily ZTL time bands. Those are no longer reliable. The Comune states that the former free-access periods were removed in October 2024. Treat the central ZTL as restricted unless your access has been explicitly authorised, for example through the appropriate permit or an arrangement confirmed by your accommodation.
Navigation apps can show the quickest road, but they do not grant permission to pass a camera gate. Before driving in, check the official ZTL page, confirm any hotel procedure for registering the vehicle plate, and keep evidence of the arrangement.
Choose a car park, then walk
The municipality’s visitor information lists Park Arena, Parcheggio Centro, Arsenale, Isolo, Park Tribunale and Polo Zanotto among the central parking options. They serve different sides of the centre, so choose by your arrival direction and accommodation rather than by an old “best parking” list.
Check the operator or municipality page on the day for opening status, height limits, availability and current tariffs. This is especially important on performance nights and major weekends, when the closest facilities can fill quickly.
A calmer arrival
If you are staying inside the historic centre, ask your host for the exact driving and plate-registration instructions before setting off. If you are visiting for the day, use one of the listed car parks outside the restricted streets and leave the car there. Verona’s main sights are close together once you are on foot.
Tip: never enter the ZTL simply because a previous article, a map route or an old sign suggests an access window. Check the current Comune guidance for your date and vehicle.
