The simplest public transport option: AirLink 199
The official Verona AirLink, line 199, runs between Valerio Catullo Airport and Verona Porta Nuova. It is the clearest choice for solo travellers and couples staying in or near the centre, provided the live timetable fits the flight. Airport information currently describes more frequent departures during peak periods and wider intervals at other times, but schedules can change. Use the official airport or ATV page rather than a timetable copied into an old travel article.
At the airport, follow the signs to the bus area outside the terminal. At Porta Nuova, pause before continuing: the historic centre is still ahead of you. Piazza Bra can be reached on foot when the weather is comfortable and your luggage is light, but a local bus or taxi is usually the better final step after a flight. If your accommodation provides arrival instructions, use those rather than guessing which stop is closest.
Line 199 is the airport-to-station connection. Your onward journey from Porta Nuova to a neighbourhood or accommodation may require a different city bus. Route numbers and Sunday or evening services can differ, so check the live ATV planner.
When a taxi or private transfer makes more sense
A taxi becomes a sensible choice when several people can share the fare, when you have children or substantial luggage, or when the flight lands close to the last useful bus. The official airport page lists Radiotaxi Catullo at arrivals and also confirms that chauffeur-driven services are available through local operators or the Uber app. Compare the live options rather than assuming that one service is always cheaper or immediately available.
Have the full accommodation address ready, including the street number. If it is inside the restricted-traffic area, a professional driver will know where access is permitted, but a private rental car does not automatically have that permission. For a first night in the historic centre, collecting a rental car only when you leave Verona can be easier than paying to park it while the city is explored on foot.
Late arrivals, early departures and missed connections
For a late flight, check the last AirLink departure before take-off, not after landing. Allow time for passport control and baggage collection, and keep a taxi or pre-booked transfer as the fallback. The same rule works in reverse for an early departure: build the journey around the airport arrival time recommended by the airline, then check whether the first public connection leaves enough margin.
If a flight is delayed, avoid buying a chain of inflexible onward tickets unless their conditions protect you. Porta Nuova is useful for rail connections, but reaching a train platform still takes time after the airport bus arrives. A calm buffer is worth more than an itinerary that only works when every part is exactly on schedule.
Continuing to Lake Garda or another city
For many destinations, Porta Nuova is the natural interchange: trains run toward Peschiera del Garda, Venice, Milan and other cities. In summer, the airport also publishes information about a seasonal connection toward Lake Garda. Do not assume that a seasonal service operates on every date; confirm the current route, stop and timetable before building a flight connection around it.
