Venice is a very good day trip from Verona when you leave the timetable open enough for the city itself. Arrive at Venezia Santa Lucia, choose one or two areas to explore and expect walking times to be slower than they look on a map.

Book the train for your actual day

Search Verona Porta Nuova to Venezia Santa Lucia in the live Trenitalia or Italo planner. Services, fares and journey times vary, so a fixed travel-time promise is less useful than checking the train that fits your return plan.

Walk first, use water transport when it helps

Santa Lucia opens directly onto Venice. A walk through Santa Croce, San Polo and toward Rialto can be more rewarding than trying to cover every landmark. Use ACTV’s current maps and ticket information for vaporetto routes; service patterns and works can change, and the best line depends on your destination.

Choose two anchors

A first visit might combine the Frari area and Rialto, or Rialto and Piazza San Marco. If you are visiting the Basilica, Palazzo Ducale or another ticketed site, reserve directly and let that reservation shape the route.

Do not plan lunch around an old restaurant list

Independent venues can change opening days, menus and reservation systems. Pick a place near the area where you finish the morning, confirm its current opening status and leave enough time to reach Santa Lucia for the return train.

Tip: Venice rewards one good walk and one water view. A shorter list of stops leaves room for bridges, canals and the inevitable small detours.
