Soave is a compact day trip in the hills east of Verona: a walled village, the Scaliger Castle above it and vineyards beyond the gates. The town is easy to enjoy without a long checklist, especially if you build the day around the castle visit.

Start with the castle

The Castello di Soave is the practical anchor of the visit. Its official page publishes seasonal opening patterns and advises that last entry is before closing; special days can differ. Check the date you plan to visit before travelling, rather than relying on a generic opening-hours list.

Wear shoes suited to cobbles and the uphill approach. The official visitor page also gives current parking and walking-access guidance, which is more reliable than driving directly toward the walls.

Walk the village slowly

After the castle, use the gates, lanes and small squares as the route. San Lorenzo Martire, Porta Verona and Porta Aquila are natural markers, but the pleasure is in leaving time for the views and the quieter streets between them.

Plan wine visits directly

Soave is known for wines made principally from Garganega. Tastings and cellar visits are best arranged directly with the producer you choose: availability, languages, transport and booking rules vary by estate and season.

Tip: make the castle opening time your fixed point, then leave the rest of the day open for a tasting, lunch or a walk among the vineyards.
